Site Presentation

Via Verde is a citizen-led project transforming Mexico City’s urban landscape and improving air quality by installing vertical gardens on over 1,000 concrete pillars across 27 km of its busiest highways. Funded by donors and local government in partnership with VERDEVERTICAL, these gardens create a “green lung” for the city, generating oxygen, absorbing pollutants, regulating temperature, and reducing traffic noise. In a city where poor air quality affects 60% of residents, Via Verde offers both aesthetic improvement and significant environmental benefits, setting an international example in urban greening. Moreover, pillars are now helping produce vegetables.
